Western US

• You'll need to choose between a single day option and a multiday option. Multiday options typically include lodging and additional amenities. But with a single day option, you can usually pair a day of heli skiing with some time at a local resort as most heli ski operators are located near ski towns. 
• What size is your group? You'll want to make sure that the operator you choose can accomodate your group size. For larger groups, we recommend more of a lodge based operation. For smaller groups, typically a day heli ski program can be an ideal fit, but don't expect to have 12 spots available with a single day operator unless you book private or far in advance.
• Don't wait to book. Many people think they can wait until the last minute to book heli skiing in the lower 48, or want to wait and look for storms or good snowpack before booking. This might work out in some cases for smaller groups or day operators, but it's best to book far in advance to ensure there is availability while you'll be in town. 

One of the obvious perks of heli skiing in the Western US is that you'll get the same incredible snow conditions as you would at the major western resorts (Snowbird/Alta, Sun Valley, Tahoe) but without the crowds or the lift lines. Untouched powder turns are the name of the game, and off resort many of these locations hold good snow conditions for days after a storm. Lodge based operations can also mean that you have everything taken care of for your trip. Food, accomodations, bar, everything!

You'll get to explore the backcountry in these iconic regions safely and easily. Expert guides and team means that you'll be much safer than if you were to venture out into the backcountry in these areas alone, which can be tempting once the resort gets tracked out. You'll also be able to do it much more easily, taking 4-8 runs per day in some cases, which you could never accomplish while ski touring. 

One of the largest benefits of heli skiing in the western states is that most heli ski operations are located near ski resorts or in ski towns. This means you can hit the local bars for apres, grab a world class dinner at a restaurant in town, and even stay at a luxury hotel. You can also extend your stay in these locations to do some resort skiing along with your heli ski days.
