Tips for Your Trip
- Decide between a private group or joining a trip. With a private group, you'll need at least 4-6 people depending on the operator. A private group may mean a bit more expense (but not always), but the benefit is that you'll have more control over the makeup of the group. You'll be better able to ensure that everyone is at a comparable riding ability. If you choose to join a group, be very upfront about riding ability and confidence so that you can be matched with the right experience and group.
- Pick between Northern and Southern Utah. This will have a big impact on dates. Typically, Southern Utah is best for Spring and Fall, where the temperature is a bit more mild, and not the blazing desert heat of mid summer. Don't be fooled though, much of Southern Utah is at high elevation and gets snow and frost in early April and late October, so you'll want a jacket and warm gear during the start and end of the season. In Northern Utah, much of the riding is at high elevation, and in the spring it can take some time for snow to melt off the trails and for the trails to dry out. But given that most of Utah is high alpine desert, trail tend to dry out quickly. Trails in Salt Lake City area can be ridden as early as March, but Park City, Sundance and other higher elevation spots may not be rideable until late May.
- Decide on your preferred level of accommodation. There are several luxury options in Utah. Our team can provide advice on the ideal places to go that have luxury lodging nearby terrific mountain bike trails. However, a lot of the options might have more rustic accommodations. Here, you'll save on price, but there may be more camping or hotels in town. Just note that almost all rides can be customized to meet your level of comfort.
