Southern Baja

• Fly into Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) and rent a car (ideally a 4×4) to venture down the Pacific coast toward Todos Santos and Pescadero. Visit between March–October for most consistent swells and warmer water; winter (Nov–Feb) brings bigger waves for experienced riders but cooler conditions. 
• Respect line‑up etiquette, say “hola/gracias” in Spanish, and engage local surf schools to learn both waves and ways; surfing in Baja is as much about community as it is about waves. 
• Wear booties at rocky breaks and bring a board for beach breaks plus one for points. Assess your skill honestly before hitting breaks with strong currents or reef bottoms. • Visit Todos Santos town (a Pueblo Mágico) for galleries, boutique hotels, surf shops and farm‑to‑table restaurants like Hierbabuena. Nearby Pescadero has farmland markets and the annual chili/berry festival in March. To extend the trip, head to Cabo Pulmo for snorkeling or whale‑shark tours—looping back along the Sea of Cortez offers beautiful scenery and varied beaches to explore. 
• Don’t miss fresh seafood—ceviche, fish tacos and fried clams seasoned with local oregano and damiana herb. Try traditional machaca with tortillas for breakfast or lunch after a surf session

Southern Baja offers consistent surf in warm Pacific waters, with breaks for all levels—from beginner‑friendly sand‑bottom waves at Cerritos and Los Cerritos to world‑class point breaks at Todos Santos and Scorpion Bay. It’s easily reached via Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) followed by a manageable 1-hour drive to Todos Santos or El Pescadero on well‑maintained highways. 

Renting a car from familiar brands like Hertz, Enterprise, or National is straightforward in Cabo, with clear signage and well-traveled roads making navigation intuitive for American visitors. English is widely spoken in surf towns and hotels, and many establishments cater to Americans with menus in English and credit‑card friendly service.

Seafood cuisine in Southern Baja is outstanding: try Baja‑style fish tacos, ceviches, and fried clams seasoned with local oregano and damiana herbs—favorites locally and internationally. In Todos Santos, restaurants like Barracuda Cantina and Hierbabuena serve elevated coastal dishes using local produce and wood‑fired techniques, blending Mexican tradition with modern flair

In towns like Todos Santos, you’ll find a vibrant arts and surf culture, hand‑painted signs, galleries, trio accordion bands, and local festivals that celebrate Cochimí heritage and coastal traditions. The area balances rustic charm with community—no glossy chain resorts, but authentic hospitality in boutique inns and eco‑lodges that feel rooted in the landscape. 

The area feels remote, but it's not skipping out on amenities that are crowd pleasers. High-end boutique hotels in the area offer luxury room service, spa facilities, surf‑butler service, and curated experiences—yet remain within small town surrounds, unlike remote surf lodges in more distant parts of Mexico.
