• Figure out which island is the best option for you. Nationality may play a role, making it easier or harder to move around the island you choose. Focus on what activities you want to do. Kitesurfing? Horseback riding? Hiking? Each island has it's own advantages and culture. Each with a unique history, they have all developed to feel very different. 
• How will you be arriving? By plane? Then it should be simple to arrange transportation to the villa from the airport on most small islands, but you may have to take a connecting flight. If you are arriving by yacht or boat you'll want to consider locations near harbors, with the ability to moor or head to the marina. Do they have good services there? 
• Keep an eye on exchange rates to take advantage of the currency exchange. But be aware, island prices are much higher than domestic, as it requires a lot more effort and fuel to bring in goods, and there is often limited supplies on imported items. 

Booking a villa in the Caribbean may feel at times, in particular when you first start exploring, to be an indulgent luxury. However, most find them to provide far more value than a luxury hotel stay. Often, a villa is less expensive for families or larger groups that would require multiple rooms. Also, with the ability to bring in a personal chef, cook for yourself, or have groceries provided, you'll find yourself saving on meals and drinks. 

The other benefit is the control you get over your vacation when booking a villa. There are no closing hours at the restaurants to worry about. The kitchen is always open. Most villas have their own staff and amenities, and can schedule services at your request. The pool is your own, so you won't need to go during certain hours to avoid crowds. 

Many choose villas because of the comfort and privacy they provide in the Caribbean. Most are in clusters or are gated for safety. The entire family or friend group can all be under the same roof. You'll really get to take advantage of the communal spaces, and many have private beach front access. The Caribbean does have tourism booms, particularly on days when cruise ships arrive, and a private villa will feel worlds away from the people pouring from a docked ship. 

Most important, in the Caribbean, villas provide an unparalleled level of service. You'll find most provide private transportation, English speaking staff to help prepare meals, buy groceries and provide cleaning service. Many come with personal concierge services, to help you book kite surfing lessons, deep sea fishing excursions, or massage treatments. There are plenty of reasons to book a villa for your next Caribbean vacation, but nothing beats the privacy and the service.
