Alaska Backcountry Guides
Valdez, AK, United States
Alaska Backcountry Guides (ABG) is a boutique heliskiing and heliboarding Operator based in Valdez, Alaska, flying the Chugach Mountains from their own hangar at the Valdez Airport. Valdez is known for its glaciers, big peaks, and heavy snowfall, and the Chugach offers everything from intermediate cruising runs to the steep lines that made the range famous. Runs here typically measure 2,000–5,000 vertical feet. ABG's model is built around small groups: a maximum of 4 guests per group and no more than 2 groups per A-Star helicopter. That keeps the experience tailored and gives semi-private guests something close to a private-helicopter day at a per-seat price. Groups that want the helicopter entirely to themselves can book a fully private week for up to 7 guests, with terrain, food, and schedule customized to the crew. Adventures run as 7-night weeks from late February through April, and they're close to all-inclusive: helicopter time, lodging at the Chugach Naswik Suites, three meals a day from ABG's in-house chefs, all ground transportation around Valdez, avalanche safety gear, and professional ski and snowboard guides. The guiding team is made up of industry veterans — several with 15 to nearly 30 years in the Chugach — including an AMGA Certified Ski Guide, an IFMGA Certified Mountain Guide, and a dedicated Director of Snow Safety. Off the snow, ABG puts real weight on the full experience. Their kitchen is led by an executive chef with fine-dining credentials, backed by an in-house pastry chef, and the team includes a certified sommelier and a massage therapist. Because Alaska weather grounds the helicopter on some days, they also offer ski touring, massages, and boat tours of Port Valdez to fill down days. Returning guests can take part in ABG's loyalty program: complete 10 full-price weeks and the 11th week is free. For U.S. travelers, ABG is also a domestic alternative to heliskiing in Canada — big-mountain Alaska terrain without a border crossing.

Pulseline Adventure
Valdez, Alaska, United States
Pulseline Adventure is a guide-owned heliskiing and heliboarding operation based in Valdez, Alaska, in the heart of the Chugach Mountains. They fly AS350 Astar B2 and B3 helicopters out of Valdez Pioneer Field, five minutes from town, and run remote fuel and staging areas along more than 80 miles of Thompson Pass — so rather than being tied to a single remote lodge, their guides can move to wherever the skiing is best on a given day. Their permitted terrain covers more than 3 million acres across a Chugach National Forest Special Use Permit, a State of Alaska DNR Commercial Recreation Permit, and a US Bureau of Land Management Special Recreation Permit. The Chugach National Forest piece alone spans more than 800,000 acres and is shared by only three permit holders. Snowfall is the headline: Valdez sees 327 inches a year at sea level, Thompson Pass gets more than 700 inches, and some of their zones top 1,000 inches. Single runs regularly deliver 4,000 to 6,000 vertical feet of glaciated, big-mountain terrain above Prince William Sound. Pulseline's flagship program is the 7-day Freeskier package, an all-inclusive week built around pre-purchased helicopter flight time (Hobbs hours), with lodging at the Totem Hotel in Valdez, meals, ground shuttles, and avalanche safety gear included. Groups who want more control over their flight time can step up to Semi-Private or fully Private heliskiing, where one group of up to 8 skiers and 2 guides has the helicopter to themselves. Specialty weeks round out the lineup: an Experts-Only Heliskiing Week for strong riders chasing steeper, more technical lines, a Women's Big Mountain Ski and Ride Camp, and a Men's Health & Longevity Immersion. For skiers who like to earn some of their turns, they also offer heli-assisted backcountry ski touring, a fly-in backcountry touring camp at a remote Chugach glacier basecamp, and guided human-powered backcountry touring. Pulseline runs an active avalanche forecasting program, tracking weather and snowpack throughout the season. Senior guides hold a minimum of Professional Level 2 avalanche certification, all guides carry current EMT, Wilderness First Responder, or Outdoor Emergency Care certification, and their Chief Guide is a licensed Physician Assistant. Beyond Alaska, Pulseline also runs ski trips in Chile and Antarctica.
