Powderbird
Alta, UT, United States
Powderbird has been flying skiers and snowboarders into the Wasatch backcountry since 1973, making it one of the longest-running heliskiing operations in the world. Based at Snowbird Resort in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah, Powderbird is the only outfitter permitted to guide heliskiing on U.S. Forest Service land in the state — a permit area that adds up to more terrain than all of Utah's ski resorts combined.
Guests can choose a Single Day trip or one of Powderbird's Multi-Day packages, which pair guided heliskiing with lodging at The Cliff Lodge at Snowbird. Single Day trips run out of the Powderbird Heliport and include a full day of guided flying, while Multi-Day guests add on spa access, curated meals, and a structured, multi-night itinerary built around back-to-back ski days. A Private Group option is also available for parties who want a helicopter to themselves.
Powderbird's guides tailor each day to the group in front of them — from steep, technical lines to wide-open meadow turns — so the experience scales from strong intermediates working on their first backcountry days to seasoned experts chasing vertical. On days when weather keeps the helicopters grounded, Powderbird runs a guided alternative at Snowbird itself, so a storm day doesn't mean a lost day.
