Kingfisher Surf Resort
Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra, Indonesia
Kingfisher Resort is a small, all-inclusive surf resort on the southern tip of Sipora island in Indonesia’s Mentawai Islands, off the coast of West Sumatra. The resort sits directly in front of Lance’s Left, a long left-hand reef break known for its year-round consistency. Kingfisher calls it the most consistent wave in the Mentawais. Lance’s Right, also known as Hollow Trees or HTs and one of the region’s best-known barreling right-handers, is about 10 minutes away by boat. The resort is deliberately small. It has 3 traditional-style beachfront bungalows handmade by Mentawai craftsmen and 1 modern suite with a private plunge pool, all looking across the bay to Lance’s Left. Occupancy is capped at 12 guests at any one time. That keeps the lineup uncrowded and makes a full-resort buyout a realistic option for a group of friends, which Kingfisher says it often accommodates. Surf access runs on Kingfisher’s own boat fleet: A 41-foot speedboat with twin 250 HP engines, used for longer day trips to waves like Macaronis and Telescopes. A 28-foot aluminium-hulled boat with twin 200 HP four-strokes, used for everyday surf and fishing runs. A 3-meter dinghy that shuttles guests in and out of the Lance’s Left lineup. Around 10 breaks are within reach of the resort. They range from mellow beach breaks and forgiving reef waves for newer surfers to shallow, heavy barrels for advanced riders. The resort’s surf guides know which spots work in which conditions. The 41-footer also serves as the resort’s emergency evacuation boat and can make the crossing to Padang on the Sumatran mainland. Off the water, guests can trek the island’s jungle tracks or visit the nearest village, about 5 km from the resort, for a woodcarving or weaving lesson. Fishing is another option: guests can trawl for Spanish mackerel, tuna, wahoo and trevally on the boat ride home. Contact Heli to check dates and book.

Miramar Surf Camp
Miramar, Departamento de León, Nicaragua
Miramar Surf Camp is a beachfront surf camp on Playa Miramar, near the fishing town of Puerto Sandino on Nicaragua's northern Pacific coast in the León region. The camp sits on the cliff directly in front of Punta Miramar, a left-hand reef point break. Several more breaks are within a few minutes' walk, and others are a short boat ride away, so most surf days start just steps from your room. The coast here picks up surf year-round, and the main season runs from March to November, when bigger swells arrive. Miramar Surf Camp describes the area as one of the few places in the world that gets offshore winds roughly 300 days a year. The mix of point, reef, and beach breaks means there's usually a wave suited to first-timers and experienced surfers alike. Their all-inclusive packages are built around three kinds of surfers. The Beginners package includes daily lessons and board rental. The Surfers package adds a daily boat trip for those coming purely for the waves. The Surf Coaching package pairs intermediate and experienced surfers with a dedicated coach and video analysis. Groups can also book the entire camp for private surf or yoga retreats, family gatherings, and events. Off the water, the camp has an ocean-side pool, an on-site skate park, a bar, and a restaurant that cooks with produce from its own garden and local suppliers. Yoga, fishing, and day trips to León, nearby volcanoes, and nature reserves round out a stay. The camp also runs on solar power and reuses filtered water around the property, part of what the team describes as an ongoing push toward self-sufficiency.

Rise up Surf Retreats
Chinandega, Chinandega, Nicaragua
Rise Up Surf Retreats runs all-inclusive surf and yoga weeks on the Pacific coasts of Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The company grew out of a 2009 surf trip through Nicaragua by founder Phil, a Barbados native who was drawn to the country's uncrowded waves, coastal communities, and wild landscapes. In 2014 he met Corina, and together they built Rise Up into the multi-location retreat company it is today. They have been operating in their host communities for more than a decade. Coaching is the center of every Rise Up week. They keep a strict ratio of 2 guests per coach, so surfers get constant, in-the-moment feedback in the water. That's backed up on land with surf theory and regular video analysis sessions that break down each surfer's technique. The program works for complete first-timers, who start with land-based fundamentals before moving into the whitewater. It works just as well for intermediates stuck on a plateau, which Rise Up names as a particular focus. Coaches choose each day's break based on conditions and the group's ability. Each retreat runs 7 nights, Saturday to Saturday, with 6 days of coaching. Daily yoga, breathwork and mobility sessions, a weekly ice bath, and a guided meditation evening round out the week. Four chef-prepared meals a day are served family-style, built around fresh local ingredients. Excursions vary by location and include horseback riding, waterfall hikes, boat trips, and community visits. Groups are capped at 11 or 12 guests depending on the location, and Rise Up says most of their guests arrive solo. Rise Up currently runs four retreat locations. In Nicaragua, Tranquil Escape is an intimate beachfront farm on the northern coast, and Luxury Escape is an air-conditioned beachfront property on the central coast. In Costa Rica, Luxury Villas is a pair of private villas in the Dominical region, and Jungle Escape is a rustic eco-lodge on the edge of the rainforest with a point break out front. The company also runs Rise Up Kids, an NGO supporting education and wellbeing in Northern Nicaraguan communities, and retreat guests can visit its projects during their week.

Nosara, Guanacaste province, Costa Rica
Silvestre Nosara Hotel & Residences is a boutique hotel on Playa Guiones in Nosara, on Costa Rica's Pacific coast in Guanacaste Province. The property is made up of nine residences set in the jungle, steps from the break Silvestre calls the best surf in Nosara. It combines hotel-style service with the space, privacy and freedom of a private home. Every residence comes with a full kitchen, a washer/dryer, business-grade internet, daily breakfast on the rooftop terrace, access to the open gym, and a custom Jim Banks performance surfboard for the whole stay. Most residences are two-bedroom, roughly 1,000 sq ft, and sleep 4 to 7 depending on the layout. At the top end is the four-bedroom, 2,000 sq ft Penthouse Grand Residence, with a private bar and a hand-crafted marble infinity bathtub. Shared spaces include a rooftop bar, an infinity pool and a lounge set in the jungle canopy. Surf is at the heart of a stay here. Guests can book professional instruction with video analysis, including private lessons with ISA-certified coaches for all levels and tailored kids' lessons with custom-sized boards. Intermediate surfers and up can also take boat charters to point breaks and uncrowded beach breaks beyond Guiones. Out of the water, Silvestre can arrange in-residence massage, breathwork, acupuncture and IV therapy. Other options include ATV tours, canopy ziplining, horseback riding, seasonal turtle watching at Ostional, fishing and whale-watching charters, Costa Rican cooking classes and private chefs. Silvestre has been named to TIME's World's Greatest Places 2024 and Travel + Leisure's 100 Best New Hotels, and it holds one MICHELIN Key (2025). The property runs an on-site wastewater treatment system that recycles water for irrigation, uses refillable Le Labo toiletries, sponsors the Costas Verdes reforestation project, and hires and trains staff from the local community. It's a strong fit for families and groups who want a surf-focused base in Nosara without giving up the comforts of home.

Surf Synergy
Jacó, Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica
Surf Synergy is an all-inclusive surf and wellness resort in Jacó, on Costa Rica's Pacific coast. It combines top-tier surf instruction with a holistic wellness program, built around a healthy, active lifestyle rather than a straight surf-camp format. The property is an intimate 14-room retreat near Jacó with oceanview suites and six nearby surf beaches within reach. Stays are structured, not à la carte. All stays are 7-night and all-inclusive, and begin and end on a Saturday — though Surf Synergy will work around restrictive flight schedules where availability allows, and can accommodate early arrivals or late departures on request. A typical week includes five one-on-one surf lessons with daily video analysis — substitutable for SUP lessons or other activities — with all gear and rashguards provided, plus an off-site excursion of the guest's choosing. Accommodation comes in two forms. Three detached bungalows each hold two separate accommodations with patios, with side-by-side adjacencies suited to friends and family. Groups can instead take Casa Cielo, an 11,000-square-foot villa for between 4 and 24 guests, built for large families, groups traveling together, or corporate retreats. The in-house coaching team works with every age, fitness level, and skill level — from a first wave to a first 360. Surf Synergy also runs specialty weeks focused on longevity, high-performance training, SUP, and women's retreats. The operation is built around harmony with its setting, with on-site food production and an ongoing partnership with Jacó Impact, a community collective focused on environmental and social work locally.
