About
Arctic Heli Skiing (AHS) is a heliskiing and heliboarding Operator based on the Troll Peninsula in North Iceland, between the fjords of Skagafjörður and Eyjafjörður, with a second program on the east coast of Greenland. Founded and owned by Jökull Bergmann, whose grandparents were the last sheep farmers at the operation's home lodge, AHS has been running ski trips on the Troll Peninsula for more than 20 years. Their guides are Iceland's only internationally certified mountain guides, most of them Canadian-trained, and the operation follows Canadian heliskiing standards. The defining feature here is summit-to-sea skiing. Around 90% of the Troll Peninsula's mountains are skiable, peaks rise to about 1,500 meters (5,000 feet), and the average run drops roughly 900 meters (3,000 feet), with many lines finishing right on the coastline where the helicopter picks up. The terrain ranges from wide, low-angle glacier runs suited to first-time heliskiers to steep couloirs and faces for experts. There are no trees, so no tree wells. The season runs from February into late June, and it shifts character as it goes: cold snow and powder with a chance at the Northern Lights through mid-April, corn snow with occasional fresh snow on northern aspects from mid-April through May, and corn snow under the midnight sun in June, when guests can ski at any hour. Mid-April to mid-May is peak season and books up well in advance. Programs run 4 or 6 days and are priced on helicopter flight time rather than vertical. The Classic program puts up to 3 groups of 4 on one helicopter, Premium caps it at 2 groups, and the Private programs give a group of up to 4 its own helicopter, including an Ultimate Private option with unlimited flying for skiing, a private lodge, and a private chef. AHS flies Airbus H125/AS350 B3e and H130 helicopters operated by Heli Austria, and the main lodge hosts a maximum of 16 guests per week. Most guests stay at Klængshóll, a centuries-old family farm in Skíðadalur (Ski Valley), with private cabins, a spa house, and meals built around local lamb, fish, and game. In Greenland, AHS runs 7-night expeditionary programs out of Hotel Kulusuk in the Ammassalik region, with first descents above frozen fjords and icebergs.

Klængshóll Lodge (Raven Hill Lodge) — Skíðadalur, Iceland
Klængshóll, or Raven Hill Lodge, is Arctic Heli Skiing's main base and the lodge for their Classic, Premium, and Private programs. It's a sheep farm in Skíðadalur (Ski Valley) on the Troll Peninsula that has been lived on since the Viking settlement of Iceland, and the last farmers here were the grandparents of AHS founder Jökull Bergmann. The property sleeps up to 16 guests in 4 traditional-style cabins, each split into 2 apartments with mountain views, a loft double bed, a single bed on the main floor, and a private bathroom; a few single rooms with a shared bathroom are in the main farmhouse. Breakfast and dinner are served in the farmhouse kitchen, with menus built on local lamb, fish, and game. A spa house has a sauna, outdoor hot tub, and massage room, and the restored barn holds the ski and boot room, ski shop, après lounge with a wood stove, and an upstairs yoga and exercise room. Signature run The Horse drops more than 1,200 meters (4,000 feet) to the lodge's front door. The lodge is about 45 minutes by car from Akureyri airport (AEY).
