About

Bella Coola Heli Sports operates heliskiing and heliboarding programs across 3.55 million acres of coastal and interior wilderness in British Columbia, with more than 1,100 runs spread across the Coast Mountains, the Great Bear Rainforest, and the Cariboo Chilcotin's Waddington Range. They're based primarily in the Bella Coola Valley, where the mountains meet the Pacific directly, with a further outpost deep in the Waddington Range near Mount Waddington, the highest peak entirely within British Columbia. Terrain ranges from wide-open alpine bowls, couloirs, and spines to sheltered sub-alpine tree skiing, and some of it — particularly around the Waddington Range — is still being skied for the first time. Trips run from January through April and are built around four basecamps — two wilderness lodges, a private ranch, and a 138-foot catamaran — each with helicopter access directly from the property. Packages run 4, 5, or 7 nights, with groups typically capped at four guests per helicopter (five at Sand Creek Ranch, which flies the larger Koala AW119) and CSGA- and ACMG-certified guides leading every group. Guests can choose a small-group or expert-group vertical program, an unlimited vertical option, a fully private helicopter charter — with a shared lodge, or as a full buyout of a lodge, ranch, or the catamaran — or, for a lighter, more affordable introduction to the terrain, a heli-assisted touring package that pairs a helicopter lift with backcountry ski touring. Every package includes a guaranteed minimum of vertical footage or helicopter flight hours, with a credit or refund available for any shortfall caused by weather or mechanical delays, and Bella Coola Heli Sports has been named a five-time winner of the "World's Best Heli-Skiing" award. Guides, safety gear (avalanche airbag packs, transceivers, probes, and radios), and skis or a snowboard are included in every package; guests bring their own boots, outerwear, and helmet. The operator also puts 2% of every booking toward its Legacy Fund, supporting community, conservation, and climate initiatives in the region, including the Great Bear Forest Carbon Project. Guests fly into Vancouver, and a return flight from there — to Bella Coola or Anahim Lake, depending on the destination — is included in every package. Bella Coola Heli Sports handles the rest.

  • Eagle Lodge

Eagle Lodge sits just outside the historic Nuxalk Nation town of Bella Coola, at the base of the valley's granite peaks, and it's the basecamp for guests on Bella Coola Heli Sports' Unlimited Vertical and Heli-Assisted Touring packages. It holds up to 12 guests across 9 rooms, a mix of single- and double-occupancy, all opening onto shared central hallways that keep the group crossing paths — over breakfast at the communal table, in the hot tub and cedar sauna after a day out, or around the entertainment room's billiards table and big screen. The lodge's A-Star helicopter carries up to four skiers at a time into the alpine bowls and sub-alpine tree runs that surround the property. Beyond the slopes, guests have access to a gym and yoga studio, a driving range, archery, bikes, and a via ferrata course, plus a dining room with bar service and a small retail shop.

  • MV Cascadia

MV Cascadia trades a fixed lodge for a 138-foot luxury catamaran, anchoring in a new fjord each night through the Great Bear Rainforest and carrying its own private A-Star helicopter on deck for guests on Bella Coola Heli Sports' Private Helicopter & Lodge package. It holds 8 guests as standard — two groups of four — with a third group of four available for an additional fee, and sleeps everyone across 8 private, outward-facing cabins split into three categories, each with an ensuite bathroom and a choice of one king, one queen, or two twin XL beds. From the boat, the helicopter reaches alpine terrain framed by glaciers and remote fjord networks, with sub-alpine forest for tree skiing closer to the water. Between runs, guests can watch for whales from the top-deck hot tub, eat Pacific West Coast-inspired meals in the salon, soak in natural hot springs, or take the kayaks and shore launch boat out from wherever the boat has anchored that evening.

  • Sand Creek Ranch

Sand Creek Ranch is Bella Coola Heli Sports' most exclusive basecamp: a full-buyout property deep in the Cariboo Chilcotin's Waddington Range, near Mount Waddington — the highest peak entirely within British Columbia — reserved for one private group at a time on the Private Helicopter & Lodge package. It's a restored 1960s ranch farmhouse holding up to 5 guests across 4 bedrooms, including a primary suite with two queen beds and a private ensuite, plus three further bedrooms — two sharing a Jack-and-Jill bathroom, and one served by a separate bathroom in the hall. The whole property, a dedicated Koala AW119 helicopter, and two guides are reserved exclusively for that one group, with no other guests, shared flights, or fixed schedule to work around. The terrain reaches some of the most remote backcountry in the province — big mountain faces, glaciated alpine, and old-growth tree skiing around the Tiedemann Glacier — much of it still unskied. Evenings center on the outdoor hot tub, a cedar barrel sauna, and family-style meals by the fireplace, with archery, axe throwing, outdoor games, and hiking trails to fill any down time.

  • Tweedsmuir Park Lodge

Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is Bella Coola Heli Sports' largest basecamp, set on 60 acres of wilderness in the Great Bear Rainforest within the Bella Coola Valley — remote enough that the helicopter lifts off directly from the lodge's front lawn. It sleeps up to 20 guests across 12 chalets and suites, most with a queen bed and a lofted double, though two chalets and all of the suites offer king-sized rooms; every accommodation has its own gas fireplace and three-piece ensuite. The lodge hosts four of Bella Coola Heli Sports' packages — Small Group Vertical, Expert Group Vertical, Unlimited Vertical, and Private Helicopter, Shared Lodge — with an A-Star helicopter carrying up to four skiers per group into vast alpine terrain that opens into pockets of sheltered tree skiing. Guests can unwind in the outdoor hot tub, cedar sauna, and firepit, work out in the on-site gym and yoga studio, book one of two massage rooms, or spend an evening in the games room with foosball, billiards, darts, and poker. The lodge also has cross-country skis and snowshoes, an aerial tree canopy climb, axe throwing, and a via ferrata course, along with a restaurant and full bar built around a central stone fireplace.
