About

CMH Heli-Skiing (Canadian Mountain Holidays) is where heliskiing began. In 1965, founding mountain guide Hans Gmoser flew a small group onto the Bugaboo Glacier in British Columbia and guided them down untracked snow, and the whole industry grew from that trip. Six decades later, CMH runs the largest heliskiing operation of its kind, with 11 destinations and more than 3 million acres of exclusive terrain across the Columbia Mountains of interior BC. Their destinations sit throughout the Purcell, Selkirk, Monashee, and Cariboo ranges, west of the Canadian Rockies. The lineup is unusually varied. There are remote fly-in lodges (Bugaboos, Bobbie Burns, Adamants, Cariboos, Galena), road-accessed backcountry lodges (Monashees, Gothics), and in-town bases in Revelstoke and Nakusp. There's also a day heliskiing operation in Golden (Purcell) and a fully private 10-room lodge (Valemount). Each destination has its own terrain character, from glacier cruising and open alpine to some of the steepest, deepest tree skiing in BC, so the right fit depends on your ability and the kind of trip you want. CMH offers a wide range of programs. Signature Trips are the classic lodge-based week. Small Group trips put four guests with one guide. Powder Intro and Powder Masters suit newer or more relaxed powder skiers. Steep Shots & Pillow Drops is a freeride program with pro-athlete coaching. There are also Family Adventure trips, All-Women's trips, Ski Fusion, heli-assisted ski touring, and Private & Exclusive trips. Multi-day trips run 4 to 7 days depending on the destination, and Purcell offers single-day heliskiing. Every package includes a guaranteed amount of vertical, and any runs beyond that guarantee come at no extra charge. CMH describes itself as the world's largest employer of professionally certified mountain and ski guides. Groups are built around ability, pace, and fitness. Most lodge-based trips include transportation from Calgary International Airport (YYC) or Kelowna International Airport (YLW), along with lodging, meals, guiding, safety training, and powder skis or snowboards. CMH is part of Alterra Mountain Company. Contact Heli to book your CMH trip.

  • CMH Adamants Lodge

Adamants Lodge is a remote, fly-in backcountry lodge in the northern Selkirk Mountains. It sits roughly halfway between Revelstoke and Golden, BC, but well to the north of both. It's CMH's dedicated Small Group destination: each group is four guests and one guide, flying in a nimble A-Star B3 helicopter that reaches deep into a tenure of 330+ runs across 1,073 sq km. The terrain leans toward big, open alpine and glaciers, with well-spaced tree runs for storm days. It's best suited to good to expert skiers and riders with solid fitness, and trips run 5 or 7 days. Guests fly into Kelowna (YLW) the day before their trip. On the first morning, a CMH coach takes them to the helipad, followed by a roughly 10-minute helicopter flight to the lodge. The 31-room lodge has an outdoor hot tub, sauna and steam room, indoor climbing wall, and fitness facilities. There are also cross-country ski and snowshoe trails, fat biking, a full-service bar, and complimentary laundry and wifi.

  • CMH Bobbie Burns Lodge

Bobbie Burns Lodge is one of CMH's original fly-in heliskiing lodges. It sits in a remote valley between the Rocky Mountains and the Columbia Mountains, close to the Bugaboo Spires. Its tenure covers 300+ runs across roughly 1,700 sq km of the Selkirk and Purcell ranges, with long, consistent peak-to-valley lines through open alpine, glaciers, and big trees. The Burns is known for a fast pace and some of the highest vertical totals at any CMH destination. It's built for strong to expert skiers and riders who arrive fit, and it runs Signature and Private programs on 4-, 5-, and 7-day trips. It's CMH's closest lodge to Calgary (YYC). A CMH coach makes the roughly 4-hour drive to the helipad near Parson, BC, followed by a helicopter flight of under 30 minutes. The 32-room lodge was remodeled in 2019 and holds the largest wine cellar among CMH lodges. It also has a games room, music room, outdoor hot tub, steam room and sauna, indoor climbing wall, fitness room, cross-country and snowshoe trails, wifi, and complimentary laundry.

  • CMH Bugaboos Lodge

Bugaboo Lodge is the birthplace of heliskiing. It started as a former sawmill camp at the foot of the Bugaboo Glacier, where CMH's first heliskiing trips were based in 1965, and it has since grown into a 32-room log-built backcountry lodge beneath the granite Bugaboo Spires. The tenure spans 235+ runs across 1,597 sq km, mixing moderately pitched glacier skiing and open alpine with well-spaced trees. That makes it one of CMH's most versatile destinations, suitable for relaxed through expert skiers. It offers seven programs, including Powder Intro, Powder Masters, Signature, Ski Fusion, and heli-assisted ski touring, on 5-, 6-, and 7-day trips. Guests fly into Calgary (YYC). A CMH coach makes the 4- to 5-hour drive to the helipad, 38 km north of Radium Hot Springs, BC, followed by a helicopter flight of under 30 minutes. At the lodge, you'll find a rooftop hot tub facing the Spires, a small CMH museum, and 20 km of groomed cross-country trails. There's also a steam room and dry sauna, indoor climbing wall, games and music rooms, a full-service bar with an extensive wine cellar, wifi, and complimentary laundry.

  • CMH Cariboos Lodge

Cariboos Lodge is a remote, fly-in wilderness lodge in the Cariboo Mountains. It's the second-northernmost CMH tenure and one of Hans Gmoser's original heliskiing areas. The terrain features big glaciated alpine, carved valleys, and open, friendly runs, with 300+ runs to choose from. The northern latitude tends to keep the snow cold and dry later into the season. The Cariboos has one of CMH's lowest guide-to-guest ratios and a strong family atmosphere, which makes it a top pick for first-time heliskiers, Powder Intro and Powder Masters groups, Family Adventure trips, and heli-assisted touring. Trips run 5, 6, or 7 days. Guests fly into Kelowna (YLW) and take a CMH coach roughly 6 hours north to the helipad near Valemount, BC, followed by a helicopter flight of under 30 minutes. The 27-room lodge features hand-crafted woodwork and a music nook. It also has an outdoor hot tub, sauna, climbing wall and bouldering cave, fitness room, cross-country and snowshoe trails, a full-service bar and wine cellar, wifi, and complimentary laundry.

  • CMH Galena Lodge

Galena Lodge is a fly-in backcountry lodge in the Selkirk Mountains and CMH's expert-only freeride destination. Its terrain is dense with steep trees, pillows, spines, and cliff drops, with slopes reaching up to 50 degrees. Roughly 80% of the skiing is below treeline, across 330+ runs and 1,080 sq km. Pro snowboarder Travis Rice based at Galena for four weeks in 2017 while filming Depth Perception. Galena is for strong to expert skiers and riders, with Signature, Private, Ski Fusion, and heli-assisted touring programs on 5- and 7-day trips. Guests fly into Kelowna (YLW). The 4- to 5-hour drive north through Revelstoke includes the Shelter Bay ferry and ends at the helipad in Trout Lake, BC, followed by a short helicopter flight to the lodge. Many guests add a few days at Revelstoke Mountain Resort before or after their trip. The 34-room lodge has a rustic, easygoing feel, a central games room with a weekly ping-pong tournament, and a stretch room with treetop views. There's also a hot tub, steam room and sauna, a 2 km cross-country and fat bike loop, a full-service bar, wifi, and complimentary laundry.

  • CMH Gothics Lodge

Gothics Lodge is a remote, road-accessed backcountry lodge north of Revelstoke. Its tenure straddles the northern Selkirk and Monashee ranges and is one of CMH's largest: 315+ runs across 1,923 sq km. The Gothics is best known for storm skiing and tree runs through an inland temperate rainforest, with open alpine and glaciers when the weather clears. Just three groups rotate in Bell 212 helicopters, so the pace is quick. It's best for good to expert skiers and riders with a few heli trips behind them. Programs include Signature, All-Women's Signature, and Private on 5- and 7-day trips. Guests fly into Kelowna (YLW) and take a coach or private transfer about 4 hours to the lodge. Self-drivers take Highway 23 from Revelstoke and then a final stretch of the Goldstream fire road, where CMH keeps maintenance crews on standby because cell service drops out past the highway. The recently renovated 31-room lodge has a big-windowed exercise room, outdoor fire pit, and indoor bouldering room. There's also an outdoor hot tub, steam room and sauna, a pond hockey rink when conditions allow, a full-service bar with an extensive wine cellar, wifi, and complimentary laundry. Returning guests consistently rate its après scene among CMH's best.

It's the home of CMH's Steep Shots & Pillow Drops program, which has run since 2012 and brings in pro athletes to coach guests on line choice and features. Kootenay suits good to expert skiers and riders, runs a three-group structure, and offers Signature, Small Group, Steep Shots & Pillow Drops, and Private trips of 4 or 5 days. Kootenay is one of two CMH destinations where transportation isn't included. Guests self-drive from Kelowna (YLW) or Spokane, or book CMH's optional paid shuttle from Kelowna in advance. The lodge's 31 rooms include TVs and phones. On site you'll find the attached Arrow Lakes Tavern, massage, exercise equipment, shuffleboard, wifi, and complimentary laundry, with natural hot springs and cross-country trails nearby. • CMH Monashees Lodge

Monashees Lodge is CMH's most modern lodge. It's a 37-room timber-frame building on the shore of the Columbia River, about 140 km north of Revelstoke. You can drive right to the door, but the setting still feels remote. Every room has a view, and the lodge features floor-to-ceiling windows and a rooftop hot tub. The Monashees is CMH's steep-and-deep tree skiing destination: 350+ runs across 1,712 sq km, with the highest tree-to-alpine ratio of any CMH area, heavy intermountain snowfall, and old-growth cedar, spruce, and hemlock. It's for strong to expert skiers and riders, with Signature, Small Group, and Private programs on 4-, 5-, and 7-day trips. Guests fly into Kelowna (YLW) and take a coach or private transfer about 5 to 6 hours to the lodge. On site: steam room and sauna, indoor climbing wall, exercise room, a full-service bar with wine cellar, wifi, and complimentary laundry.

  • CMH Purcell (Day Lodge, Golden)

CMH Purcell is the company's only day heliskiing operation. It's based in Golden, BC, about 2 hours from Banff. There's no overnight lodge. Instead, a day lodge at the helipad staging area serves as the meeting point for breakfast snacks, equipment fitting, safety training, and après. The tenure was added to CMH in 2021 and spans 250+ runs across roughly 2,000 sq km of the Purcell and Selkirk ranges, from high glaciers and alpine bowls to gladed and burnt-forest tree skiing. Each day runs just two groups, each with up to eight guests and two guides. That makes the pace flexible enough for good through expert skiers, and whole groups can book privately. The day includes lunch (served in the field, weather permitting), morning and après snacks, certified guides, a CMH safety pack, and powder skis. Transportation and accommodation aren't included. Guests self-drive to the day lodge, which is about 3.5 hours from Calgary (YYC) or 30 minutes from Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, and arrive between 7:00 and 7:15 am Mountain Time. CMH works with several partner properties in Golden for lodging. Every Purcell day includes a guaranteed amount of vertical, and extra runs are free.

  • CMH Revelstoke (The Regent Hotel)

CMH Revelstoke bases out of The Regent Hotel, a classic 32-room hotel in the walkable historic downtown of Revelstoke, BC. CMH was the first heliskiing operation in the area, arriving in 1971. Its tenure straddles the Monashee and Selkirk ranges, with 240+ runs across roughly 1,600 sq km of steep trees, open bowls, and glaciated alpine. The terrain matches everyone from first-time heliskiers on Powder Intro to strong and expert freeriders on Signature and Private trips. Being in town also means Revelstoke Mountain Resort is nearby as a backup on the rare days valley fog grounds the helicopter. Trips run 4, 5, or 7 days. Guests fly into Kelowna (YLW) and take a coach or private transfer about 2 to 3 hours to Revelstoke. Many arrive a day or two early to ski the resort. Meals are served from a set menu at the hotel's 112 Restaurant and Lounge, and the Regent complex also includes the River City Pub. Rooms have TVs, phones, and safes, and the hotel offers a hot tub, games room, exercise equipment, massage, wifi, and complimentary laundry, with the town's restaurants and shops a short walk away.

  • CMH Valemount Lodge

Valemount Lodge is CMH's most exclusive destination. It's a private, 10-room post-and-beam lodge in the Cariboo Range, booked by a single group with its own guides, personal chef, house staff, and private Bell 212 helicopter. It's CMH's northernmost area and has the largest run selection of any CMH tenure, with more than 400 runs split roughly evenly between trees and open alpine and glaciers. Because the group sets its own pace, Valemount works for any ability level. Packages are measured in helicopter flight hours rather than vertical, on 5- and 7-day trips. Guests fly into Calgary (YYC) and continue by private charter plane to the town of Valemount, then take a short helicopter transfer to the lodge. Every guest room has a private bath and balcony. On site: hot tub and sauna, indoor climbing wall, exercise room, and groomed cross-country trails. Dog sledding, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling are also available, along with a full-service bar with an extensive wine cellar, wifi, and complimentary laundry service.
