About

Stellar Heliskiing operates small-group heli-skiing out of Kaslo, British Columbia, in the Selkirk and Purcell mountain ranges of the West Kootenays. Stellar's tenure spans over 125,000 acres of untouched terrain across seven distinct ski zones, split between the Selkirk and Purcell ranges on eithr side of Kootenay Lake. The region sees roughly 60 feet (18 meters) of snowfall a year, with terrain running from open alpine bowls and high peaks up to 3,000 meters down through old-growth glades and steep chutes — 241 mapped runs in total, suited to strong intermediates through expert powder skiers and riders. They run exclusively small groups: four guests to a group with one CSGA- or ACMG-certified guide, flown in fast, nimble A-Star helicopters that can service up to three groups a day. That ratio is central to the pitch — less waiting between runs, and a guide who can tailor the day's terrain to the specific group skiing it. Stellar offers single-day trips, multi-day packages, private trips, and custom packages, with programming built around the Kootenay's early, mid, and late-season snow patterns from December into April. Guests base out of the Kaslo Hotel on Kootenay Lake, with meals, aprés, and lodging built around it for multi-day guests.

  • The Kaslo Hotel

The Kaslo Hotel is Stellar Heliskiing's lodge and base of operations, located on the shores of Kootenay Lake in the village of Kaslo, British Columbia — a small, laid-back Kootenay town surrounded by the Purcell and Selkirk mountain ranges. Stellar acquired the hotel in 2022, and it now serves as both the operational hub for heli-ski days and the place guests stay, eat, and unwind between them. Rooms are large and feature high ceilings and walk-out balconies with mountain or lake views; penthouse-level suites add self-contained kitchens for guests who want more space. The hotel's Waypoint Restaurant and Bar serves a regionally inspired menu with West Coast-style shared plates, and its patio looks out onto the Purcell runs guests skied that day. There's also a fireplace lounge for aprés, and a small on-site retail shop stocked with outerwear, base layers, and accessories for anyone who forgot gear.
