About

Viking Heliskiing is a family-owned heliskiing and heliboarding Operator based in Siglufjörður, Iceland's northernmost town, on the Troll Peninsula (Tröllaskagi) in North Iceland. Founded by Björgvin and Jóhann, lifelong friends and local mountain guides, the company is run by two Icelandic families and built on more than a decade of guiding in the region. Siglufjörður sits about 25 km from the Arctic Circle and is surrounded by the same mountains Viking skis, so the terrain starts right outside town. Viking says it operates on the largest privately owned heliskiing terrain in Europe, spread across the Troll Peninsula and Iceland's Gold Coast. Vertical drops reach up to 1,500 meters (about 4,500 feet), and many runs go from summit all the way down to the North Atlantic. The season runs from early March into June, moving from powder early on to stable spring corn snow later, often under the midnight sun. Northern Lights viewing is best from early March through mid-April. What sets Viking apart is how the skiing is sold. They're the only Operator in Iceland that packages heliskiing by vertical feet rather than helicopter flight time, so guests pay for the skiing itself. Classic packages run 3, 4, or 5 days with a set amount of vertical, in groups of 4 guests and 1 guide, with up to 3 groups per helicopter. Private and semi-private packages give one or two groups their own helicopter with unlimited vertical, based either at Sigló Hotel in Siglufjörður or at Eldar North Lodge, a private four-suite lodge on the Eyjafjörður fjord near Akureyri with the helicopter based on site. Viking also offers heli-assisted touring, pure ski touring, and custom trips. Packages include lodging, breakfast, lunch, and a three-course dinner each day, plus a new-each-season fleet of K2 skis and snowboards and a full BCA avalanche safety kit. Flights are run with partner SENNAIR in AS-350 B3 (Airbus H125) helicopters, flown by Arctic-trained pilots.

  • Sigló Hotel — Siglufjörður

Sigló Hotel is where every Viking Heliskiing guest stays on Classic, Heli-Assisted Touring, Ski Touring, and Sigló Private packages. It's a boutique waterfront hotel in Siglufjörður, Iceland's northernmost town, and every room has ocean and mountain views and a window seat for watching town life go by. Guests have access to an outdoor hot tub and sauna area, and on clear spring nights the Northern Lights often show up above the mountains and fjord, visible right from the hot tub. Dinner each night is a three-course meal at the hotel restaurant, Sunna, built around local ingredients like cod, salmon, and lamb. Viking's K2 Ski Barn, home to the guides' office and the gear fleet, sits right across the street, and heliski days start with a short pickup to the clubhouse before the helicopters launch. Around town, guests can explore the Herring Era Museum, a local micro-brewery, galleries, a bakery, and restaurants. Viking's drivers pick guests up at Akureyri Airport and bring them to the hotel on arrival day, about 50 minutes away by road.

  • Eldar North Lodge — Eyjafjörður

Eldar North Lodge is Viking Heliskiing's private-helicopter base on the shores of the Eyjafjörður fjord in North Iceland, developed with Viking's partner Eldar. It's about five minutes from Akureyri, the region's main town, and eight minutes from Akureyri Airport, yet the mountains rise straight out of the fjord around it, with hundreds of potential summit-to-sea lines nearby. The helicopter is based right at the lodge, so guests go from breakfast to the first run, and from the last run to après, with no transfers. The lodge has four suites with clean Nordic design and big windows onto the fjord, plus spacious shared living areas, a sauna, outdoor terraces, and an outdoor hot tub overlooking the water. Meals are created with chefs from Iceland's national culinary team and tailored to each group's requests and dietary needs, from private dinners to long-table group evenings. Eldar North is the base for Viking's Eldar Private package (private or semi-private heliskiing with unlimited vertical), and breakfast, lunch, and a three-course dinner are included.
