Majestic Heli Ski
Glacier View, AK, United States
Majestic Heli Ski is a heliskiing Operator based in Glacier View, Alaska, about 115 miles from Anchorage, with terrain in both the north-central Chugach Mountains and the Talkeetna Mountains. Owner Njord Rota started the company in 2011 after returning from flying helicopters in Afghanistan. He's both a ski guide and a helicopter pilot, which is rare in the industry, and he's the current President of the Heli-Ski U.S. Association. After researching parts of Alaska that commercial heliskiing hadn't reached yet, he settled on the north-central Chugach for its abundance of flyable days, its easy access to Anchorage and the road system, and its reach into the Talkeetnas. Majestic is family owned and operated, and Njord bought the lodge they run from in 2019.
Their terrain covers 2 million acres across the two ranges: bowls, spines, ramps, couloirs, and long glacier runs between 2,500 and 10,000 feet of elevation, with most runs falling between 1,500 and 4,000 vertical feet. The lodge sits at 3,000 feet, which Majestic says makes it the highest-elevation heliski lodge in Alaska, and it's slightly inland from the coast, where clouds tend to linger. Majestic credits that location with more consistent snow and more flyable days, and reports being out heliskiing more than 80% of the time. The helicopter is based right at the lodge, so travel time to the terrain stays short.
The core of the offering is unlimited vertical. Majestic doesn't cap how much guests ski or charge extra for vertical, and every multi-day package carries a guaranteed minimum backed by a credit or partial refund if weather or a mechanical problem keeps a group short of it. All-inclusive packages run 3, 4, or 7 days from February through April, covering transfers from Anchorage, lodging, meals, guiding, powder skis or a snowboard, and a full avalanche safety kit. Groups are small, with up to 4 guests and a guide in an Airbus A-Star B3, and Majestic flies only A-Stars rather than larger helicopters that carry 10 guests at a time. Private packages give a group its own dedicated helicopter, pilot, and guides, plus a stay in the Moose Chalet, and one-day trips are offered when seats are available. Majestic also hosts themed weeks, including the Slaydies Women's Camp, led by their female guides, and a week of nightly bluegrass in the lodge with the band Hot Buttered Rum.
When the Alaska season ends, Majestic follows winter south. From July to October, they partner with El Azufre Mountain Lodge in Argentina's Central Andes for heli and cat skiing trips, with a dedicated snowcat as backup so guests ski every day.
Safety runs through the whole operation. Majestic is a member of the Heli-Ski U.S. Association, a voluntary membership that requires passing an outside audit of everything from pilot training and aircraft safety to snow stability analysis and emergency response planning. Every guest goes through hands-on avalanche rescue and helicopter safety training before flying. Back at the lodge, Majestic keeps a 1:1 staff-to-guest ratio, the chefs cook everything from scratch, and days start with complimentary yoga and end in the hot tub. Majestic is carbon neutral through NativeEnergy and has installed a 43 kW solar power system.
